3rd Kunstkubus Prize 2025 – Recognition for posters by THWS students

Frank Homeyer

This year's Kunstkubus Prize went to Frank Homeyer. His work “Der Schmerz zu existieren” (The Pain of Existing) impressed the jury – a performance that condenses body, space, and material into images that linger long after the show is over. Homeyer has been working at the intersection of performance, sound, and visual art for many years, repeatedly bringing existential questions to the stage.
In addition to the main prize, two finalists were honored: Ulli Heinlein, who wrote the word “freedom” in the room with sand and ashes – fragile, transient, a powerful image for our present. And Albrecht Fersch, who irritated, made people laugh, and at the same time made them think with his “desk perpetrator” office on the beach.
A special highlight was the recognition for the posters created by the students of the THWS. Under the direction of Prof. Gertrud Nolte, over 100 posters were created as part of the #endlichankommen project, addressing current social issues: democracy, freedom, solidarity. Twelve of them were displayed in large format – an impressive statement against indifference and for political engagement. The award means that the political posters will continue! As part of the prize, the students were given the opportunity to use the art-free space again next year.

The Kunstkubus Prize 2025 once again highlighted how powerfully art can reflect social debates and open up new perspectives. From the performative works of prize winner Frank Homeyer to the political posters created by students, the exhibition spans a wide spectrum that shows how art can express pain, hope, criticism, and vision in equal measure.
