Vernissage - Posters against anti-democratic sentiment and extremism

Thursday is the vernissage at the CCW in Würzburg! The opening of our poster exhibition. You are also invited!

With this exhibition, we want to counteract tendencies that threaten democracy and invite political discourse. It is a surprising but fitting coincidence that a party classified in some quarters as right-wing extremist is meeting there on the same day.

Start: 12.00 p.m.
(1) Welcome: Dr. Pia Beckmann, pics4peace e.V.
(2) Introductory speech: Benedikt Stegmayer, Head of Cultural Affairs of the City of Würzburg
(3) Discussion with Prof. Gertrud Nolte, Artistic Director
(4) “Kreativ in den Dialog”
a. Introduction
b. Tour of the exhibition with the respective artists
(5) Get-together

More: Under the direction of Prof. Gertrud Nolte, design students from the Faculty of Design at the THWS spent a semester following the media and created over 100 posters from selected news items (for more information on the overall project, see www.endlichankommen.info).
The posters reveal grievances identified by the artists in society and democracy, call for more solidarity, reinforce positive things or give a voice to the potentially overlooked or endangered. The topics dealt with either prevent people from arriving in life or make it easier for them.

Above all, our fundamental and human rights, democracy and freedom are essential for our arrival in life. The number of autocracies in the world is constantly growing. Here in Europe and Germany, too, there are dangerous tendencies in this regard.

The 32 selected posters are dedicated to what the young artists believe is currently perceived in our country as endangering democracy and dividing society
or groups whose rights are at risk.

All visitors, young people and adults, groups and institutions are cordially invited to use the exhibition from 3 to 21 April 2025 as an introduction to political discourse and thus make their contribution to living democracy in our city.

The poster exhibition is a cooperation between pics4peace e.V. and the Faculty of Design at THWS. It takes place in connection with the Würzburg project #endlichankommen. The patron of #endlichankommen is Mayor Christian Schuchardt.
