Martha

Martha is 61, comes from Upper Swabia, and has lived in the Würzburg area since 2009. She runs the Würzburg City Library—a place where people meet, exchange ideas, and learn every day. For her, home is culture and landscape—a feeling of belonging. Home, on the other hand, means closeness: family, friends, her own four walls. She feels at home in Würzburg, even if she sometimes misses the open sense of community she knew in Freiburg.

She looks back on her life with gratitude, but also speaks openly about her concerns. Political developments in particular bother her: the division, the mistrust, the lack of shared values. "We need solidarity, not selfishness. Less fear of what is different – more empathy and togetherness."

For Martha, integration means language, encounters, building bridges. She dreams of sponsorships in which people accompany immigrants from the very beginning of their arrival. And she would like to see more open places in Würzburg: places where people can spontaneously strike up conversations – regardless of status, money, or origin.

Her husband, her family, and the people she encounters in everyday life give her strength. A smile on the Old Main Bridge can be a ray of hope for her. Personally, she hopes for good health and to be able to make a positive transition into retirement. Socially, she wishes for a spirit of optimism—trust, courage, small signs of solidarity.

“We need values that unite us—respect, equality, nonviolence. And the hope that together we can build a better society.”

Das Projekt
in aller Kürze

Jeder Mensch - egal wie alt, egal woher - will irgendwann endlich ankommen.
