Hermann

Hermann—that was the name of his father, his grandfather, and his great-grandfather. For the 82-year-old, the name represents tradition and connection. He was born in Lengede in the district of Peine, known for the “Miracle of Lengede.” He has been living in Würzburg for four years now.

His wife, who suffers from dementia, now lives in a nursing home. “That was difficult for me, but it gave me the opportunity to have free time and get to know the city better.” At first, everything felt unfamiliar, but now his new apartment has become a home for him, not least because of the people he has met in his building.

His main concerns are his wife and his health, but the constant stream of bad news also weighs on him. At the same time, he seeks interaction—whether at the doctor's office or in everyday life, conversations with younger people give him strength. Integration is a matter of course for him: people who want to live and work here should not be lost.

Democracy, freedom, and solidarity are important values for him. “We all complain at a high level; society should be more satisfied,” he says. He draws strength from memories of his wife, of traveling, of the large garden he used to have—and today also from the joy of becoming a great-grandfather.

Even though he misses his old home and friends, he feels more and more at home in Würzburg. His wish for the future: more contentment, less conflict, and a sense of community that makes everyone feel like they belong.

Das Projekt
in aller Kürze

Jeder Mensch - egal wie alt, egal woher - will irgendwann endlich ankommen.
