Assef has a moving history. His grandparents come from Russia. Some fled to Turkey and have been living there for about 100 years, while the others fled to Syria and have been settled there for the same length of time. But then the now 32-year-old had to flee himself. When he reached Würzburg, he was just 23 years old. Würzburg has now become his hometown. He is confident in the German language. He is very happy with his personal circumstances and with the situation in his city.
Assef feels a great sense of gratitude towards Germany and Würzburg for taking him in and supporting him. He feels comfortable and safe here.
For him, October 7, 2023 and what happened after that was terrible. When he says that he finds it terrible that people are being killed and dying, both on the Israeli and the Palestinian side, he is warned that it could be misunderstood. Assef does not feel free to express his opinion on this matter.
You can find out more about Assef's life, his values, fears and hopes in the podcast episode.
Jeder Mensch - egal wie alt, egal woher - will irgendwann endlich ankommen.
